Natural Hemp Based Remedies for ADHD?

by Paul Petersen

As far as the effects of natural plant-based products like hemp and CBD are concerned, many experts believe that these effects are not only short-lived but can also have harmful effects on a child’s development and behavior. The primary cause of CBD being called “the “good stuff” is that it is an anti-seizure drug, which means it prevents the breakdown of neurotransmitters in the brain.

This, in turn, is believed to result in better concentration, increased memory, enhanced motor skills, improved alertness, reduced muscle spasms and tremors, and the ability to think rationally. Also, the fact that the psychoactive component, which is CBD, inhibits the nerve receptors and thus reduces the sensation of intoxication and euphoria, makes it an excellent medicine for use with children. The main active ingredients in CBD oil for ADHD are tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) and cannabidiol (CBD). CBD is the third most abundant of all natural anti-seizure agents in the cannabis plants, which explains why it is considered to be the “good stuff.” Studies suggest that CBD is able to inhibit the reuptake of neurotransmitters into the brain and to act as an inhibitor.

The effects of CBD last up to four hours. It is generally recommended that doctors start patients on CBD only after conducting a thorough medical history, taking EEGs, performing blood tests, and other diagnostic procedures. Although there are no known side effects of topical CBD products for ADHD, the effects cannot be ruled out. If you or a member of your family has been diagnosed with ADHD, you should always discuss any new medication options with your doctor. Also, it is a good idea to ask your doctor about possible interactions with other medications and supplements used by your child. This will help you and your doctor determine what best suits your child’s needs and the effects that would be expected from any potential medication.
